This year was the 25th Anniversary of the GPCA Canoe for Cancer.

We had a record number of paddlers, 116 and 61 volunteers for the event. Due to the number of paddlers we got off to a late start. Unfortunately, a few paddlers could not read the maps therefore, they missed the Clubhouse for snacks.

The Renaissance Band entertained everyone at Port Severn Park from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. They were a huge hit and really added to the event.

We purchased lunches for all the paddlers and volunteers from Mariposa Bakery in Orillia and everyone was very complimentary on how wonderful they were.

The t-shirt logo was designed by Alexandra Deer (Grantors) who is a cancer survivor. The t shirts were a huge success.

Paul McKay took charge of the safety boats and did an amazing job of educating them on their responsibilities and making sure it all went smoothly.

We had a record number of sponsors this year and any businesses that sponsored over $500.00. We made a corporate flag which was flown on the safety boats and then placed them around the park during the event. These flags will be given to the businesses.

The GPCA event raised $77,417.00 to date and with the Brain Cancer Research contribution the total raised was $106, 448.38. Fifty percent of the $77,417.00 will go to community care for cancer patients and the balance (including the Brain Cancer donation) will go to Brain cancer research. The focus is on research for early detection.
