This is a virtual event for all members of the family.

You will create a boat from re-useable materials which will be able to float. No wood is allowed.

There will be competitions for the following:

  1. The boat that floats the longest time
  2. The Gloucester Sea Monster
  3. Sleek Design
  4. Most different types of re-useable materials
  5. Children’s boating competition
  6. Family combo competition - includes children and adults
  7. Adult competition

The base of the boat will be the minimum size of a Bristol board. You can use Bristol board or cardboard. 

The following materials could be used in your design:

  1. Water bottle
  2. Fruit or vegetable plastic or cardboard basket
  3. Plastic container from breads ie. danishes, croissants, muffins
  4. Plastic or paper cups – ie from McDonalds
  5. Plastic margarine, or yogurt or cream cheese etc container
  6. Pop cans

You may add materials to your boat.

Each boat needs to be named and have a flag. Before floating your boat, take pictures of the boat on land. Count the different types of re-useable materials.

Every boater needs to wear a life jacket before going into the Boat. You may use either your hands or a paddle to propel your boats. You can have up to 3 people in your boat.

  1. Count the number of strokes you take before the boat sinks
  2. Time how long the boat floats before the boat floats.
  3. Or count strokes and time.

Take pictures and and/or videos.  

Post your photos on the website.  Videos may be emailed to mail.gpca@gmail.com.  Make sure you post your name, the name of the boat, your time and/or the number of strokes you paddled.  You decide which categories you would like to enter. You may enter more than one category.

Medals and prizes will be awarded!

The Competition starts on Saturday August 21st at 9:00 am and ends Tuesday, August 24th at 8:00 p.m.
